Svrčuge is a small historic village located in the hills above Herceg Novi, on Montenegro’s Adriatic coast. Just a few kilometers from the sea and the bustle of the city. yet far enough to preserve its silence, tranquility, and the authentic spirit of times long past.

You don’t arrive in Svrčuge by accident. You come with intention. Narrow roads, stone houses, old pathways, and the essence of a true coastal village. Everything here recalls a time when people lived more slowly, but closer to one another.

The village has existed for centuries. Generations lived here from the land, livestock, and traditional crafts, in harmony with nature and the changing seasons. Svrčuge is known for modesty, hard work, and mutual support, values passed down from one generation to the next.

Though small, the village carries a remarkable story. Two women from Svrčuge, both named Danica, left their mark on the history of Herceg Novi — today, the famous seaside promenade “Šetalište Pet Danica” bears their name. It is yet another reminder that Svrčuge may not be large on the map, but it is deeply rooted in the identity of this region.

Today, Svrčuge remains an authentic example of an old Mediterranean village that has preserved its character, appearance, and soul. Silence, nature, and human warmth remain unchanged here. Yet due to its distance from the city, the village faces a lack of basic infrastructure, including public street lighting.
